WebRTC Developer Workshops – Building Knowledge and Friendships

by Alan Percy

Dec 15, 2016 10:53:53 AM

This last month, we wrapped up the first round of six WebRTC and Cloud Communications Developer Workshops with a final push through both Paris and Lisbon.  After our whirlwind schedule of stops in November that took us to New Jersey, Chicago, Santa Clara, and Dallas, heading over to Europe a few weeks ago gave us some new perspective on what developers are working on and their priorities.  Thanks to the hard work that our instructors dedicated to the educational materials, our numerous guests learned how to build applications with Communications Platforms as a Service (CPaaS) mark-up languages, APIs, and WebRTC.  But what did we learn?

Unlocking Media Server Cloud Deployments

by Alan Percy

Nov 14, 2016 5:09:34 PM

This week Dialogic announced general availability of Dialogic® PowerMedia® XMS Release 3.2, a significant upgrade of the company’s media server/media resource function (MRF), delivering key capabilities for NFV (Network Function Virtualization) and AWS (Amazon Web Services) cloud deployments, with expectations that the new cloud capability will accelerate adoption across network operator, over-the-top (OTT), and enterprise markets.

Great Application Ideas from the Developer Workshop Series

by Alan Percy

Nov 9, 2016 8:31:01 AM

When you get a group of creative minds together in the same room, you really never know what the result will be.  Over the last few weeks, Dialogic and Telestax have held a series of one-day WebRTC and Cloud Communications Developer Workshops, offering participants an opportunity to learn how to quickly create new voice and video-enabled communications applications.  With stops in Parsippany, NJ; Santa Clara, CA; Naperville, IL; and Dallas, TX; we were fortunate to meet some amazing people with even more amazing ideas.  As a final agenda item during each workshop, we asked the developers to give us some ideas on how they could use what they learned.  Here’s a snapshot of some of the ideas.

Time for IPX/Wholesale Operators to Pivot to Next Gen Services (Video)

by Thomas Schroer

Nov 4, 2016 10:04:45 AM

I had the opportunity to have a quick chat with Joanne Turner from Total Telecom TV at the recent Carriers World and IPX Conference in London. We rehashed some of the topics and key “take-aways” from the two day conference (I covered these in more depth in a couple earlier blogs; one on a roundtable I chaired on virtualization and NFV, and another on a panel I participated on where we discussed collaboration efforts and pushing the IPX envelope with next gen applications and services.)

Welcome to the Era of Cognitive Computing

by Alan Percy

Oct 31, 2016 4:34:20 PM

In 2011, IBM's Watson took on two champion players in Jeopardy, using early cognitive computing to soundly beat the champs with a vast library of knowledge.  But is wikipedia-like knowledge of trivia the best use of cognitive computing? It seems not. Interestingly, cognitive computing is finding real value in everyday human interactions, often playing the role of assistant or advisor, providing insight into data or human experiences to improve efficiency or accuracy.

Does Virtualization Make Sense for IPX?

by Thomas Schroer

Oct 6, 2016 9:43:39 AM

I recently led a lively roundtable discussion on virtualization, NFV, and SDN at the recent IPX Summit  in London. We had a healthy cross section of industry participants including representatives from carriers, mobile operators, equipment vendors, software centric solution vendors (like Dialogic), analysts, systems integration, and test and measurement. The question posed to the group was whether virtualization made sense for carriers and IPX operators beyond the confines of the traditional data center, and this definitely made for an interactive discussion.

Resourceful Solutions and the IoT at Itron Utility Week

by Bud Corley

Oct 5, 2016 1:20:01 PM

There’s no denying that the Internet of Things (IoT) is a hot topic – including personal applications like wearable technology, connected cars, and smart homes, as well as industrial machine-to-machine (M2M) applications with connected sensors.  The World Economic Forum (WEF) surveyed 800 leading companies and learned that 90% of them expect to see 25 billion devices connected to the Internet by 2025.  Here at Dialogic, our solutions are already an integral part of the IoT architecture. Check out these blogs for more info: Relationship between the IoT and RTC, M2M = Wingman to IoT and RTC,  and What Your Life Might Look Like in an IoT World.

WebRTC & Cloud Communications Workshop – Who’s Attending?

by Alan Percy

Sep 14, 2016 9:53:35 AM

When the idea was hatched to organize a traveling workshop to teach the basics of WebRTC and Cloud Communications, we weren’t quite sure who (if anyone) would sign-up and spend a day with us.  Would it be hard-core developers?  Beginners?  Nobody? I was really nervous. Now that registration has been open a few weeks, nervousness has been replaced by AMAZEMENT!  Based on the registrations, we have a great group of participants planning to spend a day with us - but who?

Getting Started with CPaaS

by Alan Percy

Aug 11, 2016 10:53:26 AM

Can you teach an old dog new tricks?

The process of developing communications applications is in the midst of a long, over-due update, moving from complex legacy APIs and programming languages to easy-to-understand script and drag-and-drop GUI programming.  A number of Communications Platforms as a Service (CPaaS) providers have sprung to life, based on easy-to-use HTML-like syntax and APIs.  The most significant benefit is bringing application development within the skillset of a huge number of web developers and those without experience in software development.

WebRTC and Cloud-based PBX - Can.do

by Jim Machi

Jun 21, 2016 9:47:29 AM

A few weeks ago I attended and spoke at ByNet Expo in Israel. I spoke in the telecom track about the “Agile Network.”  Part of what I was talking about was the value of WebRTC and NFV going forward in terms of the profound impact and changes these technologies will have on telecom.

During this event, I had an opportunity to meet with a number of our customers.  One of the interesting customers I met with was Fone.do
